A central function of Pama Language Centre will be active corpus development for each language in Cape York Peninsula as well as the administration of a resource centre for linguistic materials pertaining to each of these.

Long-standing linguistic archives, such as AIATSIS and PARADISEC, are a long way from Cape York Peninsula and materials lodged there are difficult for local people to access, due to geographic distance and poor Internet access.

Linguists would be able to lodge copies of their materials at both a national repository and at the Pama Language Resource Centre and know that those who need the materials will be able to easily locate and use them. The Pama website will also act as a portal to a stable and secure online database.
